MONDAY SEPTEMEBER 28TH - EDINBURGH - JEDBURGH - YORK ENGLAND

"This morning visit Floors Castle, the Duke and duchess of Roxburghe's family home and the largest inhabited castle in Scotland. Later, pass the house of Mary, Queen of Scots, see a section of Hadrian's wall, and in York, Englands most medieval city." walk through the maze of streets including the narrow "Shambles"

NOVOTEL YORK

This morning dawned sunny in Edinburgh – and stayed that way all day!
Beautiful countryside all the way to Floors Castle, which is the largest inhabited castle in Scotland.  It is a large estate and the family live in the west wing. We walked through the castle (no photos allowed inside). The rooms are full of precious things – it’s like a period museum and has over 30000 visitors a year. It costs over 500 pounds a day to maintain the castle. The Paintings, tapestries and china are all reminiscent of a different era.

Next we passed into England by country roads green and agricultural.
WIND FARMS IN MANY OF THE AREAS WE HAVE TRAVELLED THIS TOUR
On to Hadrian ’s Wall, not the most preserved section but enough for Henry to tick it off the Bucket list. I preferred to photograph the horses!

A short lunch stop at a Maccas and Costa service centre for a quick lunch so we could get into York early enough to explore the town.
York is England’s most complete medieval city and our walk into the city with our guide and our walk back to the hotel on our own let us experience this interesting city.
