HOLIDAY INN STRATFORD
Today first
stop Coventry. We travelled on the expressway – tough for the bus driver as the
fog was horrendous! The end of the tour becoming a reality as the tour guide
explained arrangements for end of tour and travelling home.
We were
going to have a brief stop in Coventry but needed an hour so the driver could
have his required break.
We stopped
at the site of the old/new cathedral. The old a skeleton (bombed heavily during
the war) and the new beside it – a 1950’s designed building.
We walked
into the square and photographed the statue of Lady Godiva – had a wander via
the museum’s ladies room.
Sun started
to break through and on to Stratford where we drove passed Anne Hathaway’s
cottage and visited Shakespeare’s birthplace also wandering through the village/
town shops.
Off then to afternoon tea in the lower Cotswolds at The College Arms. We didn’t have lunch in anticipation of scones and coffee/tea. Definitely clotted cream but scones not nearly as good as mum’s. Lovely old pub though, originally owned by Henry V111.
Beautiful
gardens everywhere showing signs of autumn .... but still colourful.
On then to
Broadway and walked down one street in the village where many of the houses
date back over 400 years. Many of the
houses have been made into antique and gift shops and offices.
Third and final stop Chipping Campden, mainly to see the old marketplace where we could see the inside of the roof.
Back to Stratford, a lovely final dinner and we can’t believe the tour will end tomorrow!
