SCOTTS HOTEL KILLARNEY
Waking this
morning I realised I had jinxed us….the weather had turned drizzly, and
remained so for most of the day. On and off though and certainly not cold so
able to get around. Breakfast proved interesting …on offer porridge with
whiskey or Baileys…….
| ROAD SIGNS IN TWO LANGUAGES |
I couldn’t fit the $35000
chandelier in my bag unfortunately!
Armed with raincoat and brolly we went for
a little wander.
Henry found his fridge
magnet and a tin of mints!
Two hours to the Blarney castle. Still drizzling so we visited the Blarney Woollen mills – really a giant store selling their products. The Aran pullovers and woven things were exquisite. The pullovers etc. much too warm for Sydney, but couldn’t resist a beautiful scarf…might need it in Scotland I think!
Lunch and
free wi-fi and we caught up with the Turnbull/Abbott spill.
| GREAT NAME FOR A COFFEE SHOP! |
We had
decided not to kiss the Blarney Stone, too wet and slippery and 6 flights of
stairs…plus huge crowds turned me off the idea completely. We had half hour to
spare so thought we’d wander the gardens and see the castle…admission 13 Euros
(about $30)…..forget it!
Absolutely
stunning countryside to Killarney. Most houses here so far are free
standing. They are mainly rendered,
have front fences and lots of hanging baskets and colourful gardens. Farms are
small, people here apparently love owning land and as a result keep small farms
that are not very profitable. Reached Killarney early, hotel good and sitting
in the middle of the town. Here for three nights and a chance to chill out (and
get the washing done lol!).
