FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 25TH - INVERNESS HIGHLANDS EXCURSION

"At Culloden visitor Centre the story unfolds of the crushing Hanoverian victory over Bonnie Prince Charlie's Scottish clans. then call into Cawdor Castle, set in stunning grounds with beautiful gardens and home to the thanes of Cawdor since 1370. back in inverness, the rest of the day at leisure."

This sign that you put on the door in my mind sums up  the difference between the Irish and the Scots!

Today was a much quieter day - in the morning a short trip from Inverness to the Culloden visitor Centre where the story is told of the Hanoverian victory over Bonnie Prince Charlie's Scottish clans. I had a quick look but Henry found it fascinating. ( no pictures allowed inside!)

Outside were three highland cattle grazing and this one seemed to know I was photographing it posing really nicely for me!

Next we went to Cawdor Castle, displays in many of the rooms but again no photos inside. The gardens are what really are impressive though, one formal the other more informal. Although the season for flowering is nearly over they were still very beautiful. Google the story (and scandal) of the current Lady Cawdor and her family... very interesting!

LORD OF THE MANOR????????
Outside grazing were these two amazing sheep!

Our hotel in Inverness is located on the river.

On reaching Inverness we had delicious Cullen Skink soup and as my cold was not the best I decided to rest while Henry visited Urquhart Castle on the banks of Loch ness..... and then went on the Loch looking for Nessie!
