WEDNESDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER - NICE

We were going to have an easy day today....and the best laid plans of mice and men.......
It was a really warm day so we tried to walk as much as we could on the shady sides of the streets.
Walking up towards the old town lots of interesting sights. The best the patisserie where we enjoyed our morning cuppa and watched the world go by!

3 pieces equals 3 rooms!!
Stopping for a while at the Massena I left Henry reading on a bench and wandered into the famous Lafayette store. Although the prices were still over-the -top it is very ordinary compared to the same store in Paris that I visited so many years ago. Took a few shots though thought Anastasia might like them.

Henry had wanted to try a crepe with Nutella of all things so our next stop was a shaded café in the square of the old town that was getting a lovely sea breeze. I thought the Nutella barbaric but I know it is very popular. Henry loved it!

What can I say about these??????

At a chocalaterie!...still haven't had one though

They sell lavender everywhere in the old town markets, though this looked lovely

In the old town...people still live in these apartments, imagine when they were built!
As we  about to go back to our studio I was foolish enough to suggest that we visited the Mountee de Chateau which is a tourist attraction, once a 12h Century Chateau that rises 93 metres above sea level. We could have walked up steps...but instead an elevator caters for the infirm (or just plain worn out!)

The views were amazing, one side the Port the other the main city of Nice.

There is a large park area and lots of scenic walkways on the mountain.... our tired and hot selves really savoured these ice blocks!
Walking home (still trying to stick to the shade) we passed the Opera House. In the park is this lovely carousel and we know when we see it that there is only 10 minutes walk left. Another supermarket visit and then a very welcome return to the studio. We have had tea at home every night because we are too tired to go out!!!!.......really looking forward to being a sloth tomorrow and the time in the train (about 5 hours)....and Paris here we come!
